A massive protest rally against the private medical college,South Asian Institute of Technology & Medicine(SAITM) was held yesterday in Ratnapura with the participation of medical students, doctors and representatives of the GMOA, clergy and major political parties playing an active role. The protest march which commenced from the Ratnapura Provincial General Hospital concluded at Seevali Grounds in a massive rally.

Following the ruling given by the Court of Appeal on the 31st of January that the SAITM medical degree was lawful and the students can be given registration at the Sri Lankan Medical Council (SLMC) massive protest rallies were staged all over the island. In the wake of the alleged attack on the SAITM CEO Dr. Sameera Senaratne-which was subsequently revealed to be a staged event- rallies and protest marches have intensified in an effort to abolish the establishment of Private Medical Colleges in Sri Lanka.
